Chances are you have a filing cabinet, or multiple ones like me, full of worksheets and printables that you use to engage your students in classroom learning experiences. Most of these printables probably started as a PDF that you opened on your computer, printed, and then copied for your kids. The vast array of paper and pencil assignments is perfect for differentiation and learning in the classroom. However, not as much for distance learning, right? Did you know that you can incorporate technology to create experiences perfect for learning at home or in the classroom setting? Here are three ways you can turn PDF activites into digital resources that engage your students in learning experiences for distance or classroom learning.
Use Kami to Turn PDF Activities into Digital Resources
Kami is a teaching tool that allows you to upload a document and share it with students for distance learning or at-home learning. Once the kids have access, they can mark-up the assignment by adding textboxes or using the pen tool, for free. You can delete pages from the original document using the split and merge tool and share the assignment by generating a link.
With the free version, you have access to the basic features. You can upgrade to the teacher plan to add images, use the dictionary, integrate with platforms such as Google Classroom or Schoology, utilize various accessibility features, and more. Kami is a perfect tool to turn PDF activities into digital resources for your science classroom or any classroom.
Use Google Slides
If you are a G Suite person, you might prefer using Google Slides to make the assignment a digital activity. First, create an image of the page you want your students to complete. If you don't have a document converter, the easiest way to do this is to take a picture or a screenshot of the page. Next, open Google Slides. You can start a blank presentation or insert a new slide into a presentation you want your students to view. Click on "background" then "choose image." Select your picture from wherever you have it saved. After the image is uploaded, your students can add a text box and type in their answers. And just like that, you just went through the steps to turn a PDF activity into an interactive digital resource that can be used in class or at home.
Use TpT Easel to Turn PDF Activities into Digital Resources
If the resource is something that you accessed through Teachers pay Teachers, there is a new feature you should try! Begin by heading over to the resource page. Find the button on the right that says "create digital activity". Clicking the button will open up a page for you to first remove pages (like covers, answer keys, and such), then add your own directions and text boxes. You share the resource to Google Classroom directly through TpT. The learners can mark-up the PDF using pen or text box tools and turn in. It is an excellent feature that will allow you to use those PDF documents digitally using technology.
Use Classkick
